TAIPEI, June 16, 2025 — Advantech (TWSE: 2395), a global leader in AIoT and Edge Computing, recognized on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI-World) in 2023 and included in the S&P Global 2024 Sustainability Yearbook, is pleased to introduce the AFE-E420, a new single-board computer (SBC) from our AFE product series. This series is designed to provide integrated solutions for EV chargers and energy storage. Utilizing NXP® Semiconductors and Arm technologies, the AFE-E420 delivers exceptional reliability, security, and adaptable performance for various tasks. It also minimizes power usage and heat output, making it a durable and cost-effective option for field deployments.

The Advantech AFE-E420 is equipped with the latest NXP i.MX 93 applications processor series, which improves performance and lowers power consumption through its enhanced Arm® Cortex®-A55. An integrated Cortex-M33 co-processor acts as an independent, MCU-like core, simplifying real-time and critical function management, such as monitoring control pilot communications between the charger and EV. The i.MX 93 applications processor is the first in the i.MX family to use the Arm Ethos-U65 microNPU, enabling developers to create more sophisticated and efficient machine learning applications. Furthermore, the advanced EdgeLock® secure enclave enhances security in widespread use cases.
“The highly integrated i.MX 93 applications processors combine the capabilities of the Arm Ethos-U65 microNPU with advanced security and a high degree of integration to deliver efficient, fast, secure machine learning at the edge,” said Alexandra Dopplinger, Director of Product Marketing, Building and Energy, NXP. “Advantech’s AFE-E420 SBC enables the i.MX 93 SoC’s comprehensive capabilities to deliver faster time to market for EV chargers and energy storage applications.”
The AFE-E420 aims to integrate both EVSE and SECC to streamline the design, manufacture, and maintenance of EV chargers. Within a compact 145 x 115mm form factor, it offers dual displays, 4 CAN-FD ports, 6 selectable RS-232/422/485 ports, 6 RTD channels, and 2 control pilot ports. Specifically for EV charging solutions, the AFE-E420 includes multiple, independent CAN-FD and Powerline Communication (PLC) interfaces, compliant with CCS1, CCS2, NACS, GB/T, and CHAdeMo standards. We partner with numerous ISVs to implement ISO15118 and OCPP protocols, simplifying the deployment and upkeep of end devices. Advantech is also a member of CharIN, which oversees the CCS, MCS, Plug & Charge, and V2G standards, ensuring our solutions meet the latest requirements and address market demands.
With its cutting-edge processing capabilities, machine learning integration, and extensive compatibility, the AFE-E420 is set to transform EV charging and energy management, pushing the industry toward greater efficiency and sustainability.
