Documentary film nominated for ‘Most Valuable Documentary of the Year’ at the Cinema for Peace Dove Awards in Berlin and slated for a special screening in The Hague, Netherlands
Upcoming events will continue to highlight the struggle for Ukraine as the three-year anniversary of the war approaches
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14, 2025 — The Academy Award-nominated, DGA-winning, and 2025 duPont–Columbia Award-winning documentary PORCELAIN WAR, which portrays ordinary artists and citizens defending their country and culture, will be showcased at two prestigious European events this weekend, underscoring Ukraine’s ongoing conflict as the war’s third anniversary nears.
Co-director Brendan Bellomo will attend the Cinema for Peace Foundation’s Gala Awards Ceremony in Berlin on February 17, where the film is a contender for “Most Valuable Documentary of the Year.” Furthermore, Porcelain War will have a special screening in The Hague, Netherlands, on February 20.
The Cinema for Peace Foundation, founded in 2008, leverages film’s power to shape perceptions and promote solutions to global social, political, and humanitarian issues. The organization has supported films and recognized figures such as Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, and Nelson Mandela.
The Hague event is anticipated to draw numerous high-profile attendees, including various ambassadors, ministry officials, the Dutch Special Envoy for Ukraine, parliament members, European Commission representatives, and cultural leaders. Confirmed speakers include the Chargé d’Affaires from the Ukrainian Embassy in the Netherlands, the Dutch Special Envoy, a representative from The Hague Municipality, and The Hague Humanity Hub’s managing director.
“Amidst current global distractions, we are deeply honored by these opportunities to remind viewers of the realities faced by Ukrainians,” stated Bellomo. “The ongoing civilian suffering, as depicted in our film, requires sustained attention as the war enters its third year.”
Winner of the 2024 Sundance Grand Jury Prize: U.S. Documentary, PORCELAIN WAR powerfully illustrates resilience, capturing the enduring hope and passion of ordinary individuals amidst extraordinary circumstances. As war ravages their homeland, three artists choose to remain in Ukraine—equipped with their art, cameras, and, for the first time, firearms.
Recently praised by Deadline as “incredibly prescient, present, and powerful in telling everybody that the resistance is anywhere you are, anywhere you go—it is art and spirit, because they’re the same thing,” Porcelain War had a theatrical release across North America via Picturehouse starting in November, initially opening in over 50 cities nationwide – with a return engagement in New York this weekend and continued showings in Los Angeles and 10 other cities.
