Issue

SC Johnson & Son, Inc. is recalling specific batches of Babyganics sunscreen products because an impurity was detected in the products at levels above the acceptable limit, potentially posing health risks.

These sunscreens are designed for infants and children between six months and 12 years old. Adults aged 18 and older can also use the spray.

The impurity, a solvent called monoglyme or 1,2-dimethoxyethane, can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled. Frequent use over large areas of the body or inhalation might cause side effects, including potential harm to fetal development and the reproductive system. While these health consequences are unlikely, they cannot be excluded. Consequently, the products are being recalled as a precautionary measure.

Health Canada is tracking the company’s recall process and its corrective and preventive measures. The Department will notify the public if any new health risks emerge.
