February 15 marks the National Flag of Canada Day

OTTAWA, ON, Feb. 15, 2025 – We commemorate the 60th anniversary of our national flag today.

The maple leaf flag was first raised on Parliament Hill at noon on February 15, 1965. This date now serves as an annual tribute to this globally recognized symbol.

Over the decades, our flag has evolved into more than just an emblem; it unites Canadians under the shared principles of democracy, inclusivity, and justice. Recent events demonstrate unwavering national pride and unity. Our commitment to Canada remains steadfast.

The flag embodies Canadian excellence, evident in our artists’ global performances, our celebrated heritage in museums and festivals, and the narratives shared by our creators across various media. Our culture is integral to our national identity and a source of immense pride.

Reflecting our rich heritage, our flag powerfully symbolizes our sovereignty, resilience, and resolve. Its presence reminds us of our collective identity as Team Canada.

I encourage all Canadians to join in celebrating 60 years of our national flag—a symbol of our nation’s future.
