Sunmed™ | Your CBD Store® is urging Texas Governor Greg Abbott to reject Senate Bill 3

AUSTIN, Texas, June 9, 2025 — Sunmed™ | Your CBD Store® and its network of small hemp retailers throughout Texas are imploring Governor Greg Abbott to veto Senate Bill 3 (SB 3). They argue it would deny law-abiding small businesses the chance to provide wellness and therapeutic products to Texans, which in turn supports the state’s economy.

If Governor Abbott doesn’t veto SB 3, it will prohibit the majority of hemp-derived cannabinoid products currently available in over 7,500 licensed retail locations in Texas. Sunmed | Your CBD Stores are independently owned and rely on the sale of legal, hemp-derived cannabinoid wellness products to sustain their livelihoods and support their families.

Ralph Paul, a Sunmed | Your CBD Store owner in Keller, Texas, cautions:

“If SB 3 becomes law, I will be forced to close my businesses. This goes beyond just banning products; it means laying off staff, defaulting on leases, and losing everything we’ve worked for. We operate legally and transparently within the Texas Hemp Program and shouldn’t be casualties of a political agenda.”

Across Texas, retailers are preparing for potential closures. Gary Brandt, who owns a Sunmed | Your CBD Store in Lakeway, Texas, adds:

“I’ve invested my savings, hired local employees, and serve customers who rely on our wellness products. This bill harms not just businesses but also families, communities, and the state’s financial stability. We urge Governor Abbott to veto SB 3 and support small businesses.”

According to a 2025 report by Whitney Economics, the hemp-derived cannabinoid industry is vital to the Texas economy:

  • It provides 53,300 jobs for Texans.
  • It contributes $2.1 billion in wages.
  • It generates $5.5 billion in revenue.
  • It contributes $267 million in retail sales tax.
  • Its total economic impact is estimated at $10–10.5 billion.

The Whitney report highlights that the industry’s impact extends beyond retail stores to include rural farming, supply chains, distribution, and manufacturing. Over 8,500 licenses across retail, wholesale, and manufacturing could become worthless.

Sunmed | Your CBD Store and its associated network advocate for sensible regulation and consumer protection. However, they believe SB 3 is effectively a prohibition that will eliminate a thriving, tax-paying industry operating under a clear legal framework.
