HOUSTON, Dec. 31, 2024 — CenterPoint Energy offers a New Year’s resolution checklist to help customers save energy, enhance safety, and simplify home life. These tips, ranging from minor adjustments to significant changes, can contribute to a more efficient and secure start to the year.
This checklist provides resolutions for a more energy-efficient and safer 2025:
Boost Your Energy Efficiency
- Begin your energy efficiency journey. CenterPoint provides energy efficiency programs to help customers conserve energy and reduce costs.
- Make smarter lighting choices. Switch to ENERGY STAR® certified LED light bulbs to lower energy consumption.
- Upgrade your appliances. Replace older appliances with energy-efficient models and take advantage of available rebates.

- Improve home sealing. Weatherize your home by sealing air leaks and adding insulation.

Prioritize Safety
- Use space heaters safely. Keep space heaters at least three feet from flammable materials, and never use stoves or ovens for home heating.
- Check your detectors. Regularly test smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors and replace batteries. Replace alarms according to manufacturer instructions.
- Recognize CO poisoning symptoms. Early symptoms include headaches, fatigue, nausea, and dizziness. If suspected, leave the area, get fresh air and call 911.
- Report gas leaks promptly. If you detect the odor of natural gas, evacuate the area, call 911, and notify CenterPoint. Avoid creating sparks.
