“Our top concern is always ensuring a consistent power supply, especially when our customers rely on us the most,” stated Sri Maddipati, vice president of electric supply. “We are entering the summer season with confidence in our ability to deliver reliable power, thanks to our varied energy resources and proactive grid management.”

Consumers Energy’s future-oriented supply strategy incorporates a wide range of adaptable generation resources that are continuously evolving through key investments, such as the acquisition of the Covert facility and recent initiatives. The Jackson Generating Station and the Karn 3 and 4 combined cycle units will also remain in operation.

“Our energy future is based on meticulous planning, strategic investments, and a grid that is both flexible and reliable. We are already witnessing the benefits of these investments, and we anticipate seeing returns for generations to come,” Maddipati commented.

Strategic investments in our infrastructure are essential to our long-term strategy to strengthen the grid, minimize outages, and prepare for future energy demands, as detailed in the company’s plan. These investments have contributed to a reduction in the average time customers experience power interruptions by over .

In addition to our strong generation supply, Consumers Energy actively monitors the grid and maintains communication channels. Control centers monitor the grid around the clock to quickly address any potential issues, and there is ongoing daily coordination with MISO as part of an interconnected regional network that includes integrated transmission and distribution systems.

Consumers Energy offers financial incentives to customers who shift their energy usage to off-peak hours in the summer, such as early mornings, evenings, and overnight. Customers can further reduce their bills through programs that encourage the use of smart thermostats and agreeing to reduce energy consumption during peak demand times on select days each summer. These customer programs, combined with our diverse, flexible, and proactive strategy, enable Consumers Energy to satisfy Michigan’s energy needs while continuing to make progress.

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, delivering natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state’s 10 million residents across all 68 counties in the Lower Peninsula. Consumers Energy recognizes that its primary responsibility is to maintain a consistent power supply for its customers. We are dedicated to providing dependable, adaptable, and affordable energy to our customers 24/7.
