The Union Secures its First Agreement in New Jersey and Successfully Organizes a New Dispensary
HAZLET, N.J., April 30, 2025 — Teamsters Local 469 has officially ratified its inaugural collective bargaining agreement within the cannabis sector, alongside the organization of another dispensary, all achieved in under a month.
According to Michael Broderick, President of Local 469, this industry is essential to their union and a high priority. He stated that they anticipate further organizing cannabis facilities and negotiating more agreements that provide the respect and benefits their members merit.
Local 469 members employed at Garden Society have approved their initial contract, which features a wage increase exceeding 30 percent over three years. It also includes increased paid leave and overtime, employer-funded retirement contributions, and safeguards against unfair discipline and outsourcing.
Jesse Case, Teamsters Food Processing Division Director, stated that the events in New Jersey are indicative of a nationwide trend. He added that they are securing the best cannabis contracts because they are the premier union in the cannabis industry.
Just days before the Garden Society Teamsters ratified their first contract, employees at Cannabist in Mays Landing, N.J., voted overwhelmingly to become part of Teamsters Local 469.
Abby Hill, a Cannabist worker who voted to join Local 469, expressed her anticipation for the support a Teamsters contract will provide and her excitement for the future.
Teamsters Local 469 represents over 4,000 workers in New Jersey.
