WASHINGTON, April 15, 2025 — U.S. News & World Report, a leading source of health care rankings and consumer information, has released the . The 2025 edition recognizes 1,894 communities as Best Senior Living communities.

Now in its fourth year, the U.S. News Best Senior Living ratings are designed to support seniors and their families as they look for independent living, assisted living, memory care, or continuing care retirement communities that align with their specific needs.

These ratings are determined by a nationwide survey of residents and their families. In 2025, U.S. News analyzed nearly 450,000 survey responses from residents and their families across more than 3,800 senior living communities throughout the country. The survey collected information regarding satisfaction with community safety, care services, activities, management, staff, food quality, value, and other facets of community life.

“Choosing a senior living community represents a significant decision for older adults and their families. The U.S. News Best Senior Living ratings offer data-driven support for this decision, providing an objective evaluation of resident and family satisfaction within senior living communities,” stated Liz Pearce, director of senior living at U.S. News.

“It’s worth noting that a separate U.S. News survey exploring older Americans’ experiences with loneliness revealed that transitioning into senior living communities can greatly improve residents’ social well-being: 61% reported feeling less lonely, and 85% formed new friendships,” Pearce added.

The following 20 metropolitan areas, presented in alphabetical order, are home to the highest number of Best Senior Living communities in the United States:

U.S. News grants the “Best Senior Living” designation only to communities meeting , based on feedback from over 450,000 consumer surveys. Only the highest-rated communities within each care level receive a “Best” rating. U.S. News also acknowledges exceptional performance in key areas with a High Performing accolade, awarded to communities scoring in the top 25% nationally for caregiving, activities & enrichment, management & staff, food, and a homelike environment, while also fulfilling other specific criteria.
