VANCOUVER, BC, Jan. 20, 2025 – Finnish developer Sunborn International Holding (SBIH) proposes a new 250-room floating hotel for Vancouver, in collaboration with the Vancouver Harbour Flight Centre (VHFC). This world-class hospitality venture promises job creation, economic stimulus, and a novel waterfront destination.

“This floating hotel will be a stunning addition to Vancouver’s waterfront,” says Graham Clarke, VHFC Chairman. “It innovatively addresses Vancouver’s hotel room shortage without impacting land use, and will enhance the waterfront with new public areas, viewpoints, cafes, and restaurants.”

The plan adds 250 hotel rooms without using valuable city land. If approved, Sunborn Vancouver will be built off-site, minimizing disruption. The environmentally friendly design will use renewable energy, cutting power consumption by 60-70%.

Connecting to the Vancouver Convention Centre’s infrastructure, this low-carbon hotel will function like a land-based building, with zero water discharge. Sunborn Vancouver will be fossil fuel-free, producing no emissions from engines or generators.

“We’re thrilled to bring our next-generation low-carbon floating hotel to Vancouver’s waterfront,” says Hans Niemi, Sunborn International CEO. “This purpose-built vessel will be a beautiful, integrated addition, creating new public spaces.”

The hotel, amenities, and services are projected to generate over 200 direct jobs. This fully privately funded project is undergoing rezoning with the City of Vancouver; if approved, opening is slated for 2027.
