Deadly Overnight Attack on Kyiv: Russia Accused of Killing 9, Injuring Dozens

Ukrainian authorities are pointing the finger at Russia for a missile and drone assault on Kyiv overnight that resulted in at least nine fatalities and 70 injuries, including children.

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration’s Telegram channel, the Russian military targeted Kyiv with both drones and ballistic missiles. The administration reported the detection of at least 45 drones, with the Ukrainian Air Force expected to provide updated figures later.

The attack, which commenced around 1:00 a.m., impacted at least five districts within Kyiv. In the Sviatoshynkskyi district, a residential building was damaged and subsequently caught fire. Additional fires were reported in the Shevchenkivsky and Holosiivskyi districts.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that at least 42 individuals were admitted to hospitals. Rescue teams worked throughout the morning, recovering bodies from under the debris.

The assault occurred shortly after peace talks seemed to falter, with President Donald Trump criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of extending the “killing field” by refusing to concede Crimea to Russia as part of a possible peace agreement. Later that same day, Trump stated that dealing with Zelenskyy had become “harder” than dealing with Russia.

Zelenskyy has repeatedly stated that acknowledging occupied territory as belonging to Russia constitutes a red line for his nation.
