Greek Man Sentenced for Repeatedly Sniffing Neighbors’ Shoes

A Greek court sentenced a 28-year-old man to a suspended one-month prison term for repeatedly trespassing on his neighbors’ properties to smell their shoes. The man, appearing in court on Thursday, expressed his inability to explain his actions and admitted to feeling embarrassed by his behavior. He assured the court he had no intention of breaking the law or causing harm during the incidents. The defendant’s neighbors corroborated his claim, stating that he never exhibited any aggression during his nocturnal visits. As a condition of his sentence, the man was ordered to attend therapy sessions. The incident that led to the man’s arrest occurred on October 8th in the early morning hours in the town of Sindos. A neighbor discovered the man in their front yard, sniffing shoes left outside to air. Police were called to the scene. At least three similar incidents had been reported over the previous six months, despite neighbors’ requests to the man’s family to intervene.
