Reports indicate that a 25-year-old man, initially pronounced dead, was discovered alive just as his cremation was about to begin.
Rohitash Kumar, a deaf and mute man from Rajasthan, India, was declared deceased at Bhagwan Das Khetan district hospital without an autopsy, according to The Times of India.
Following the discovery of Kumar’s survival at his Thursday afternoon cremation, his family brought him home, where he passed away early Friday morning.
The Times of India reported that three doctors involved in certifying Kumar’s death have been suspended.
The Daily Mail, citing AFP, reported that Kumar suffered an epileptic seizure and was declared dead after he experienced cardiac arrest while receiving CPR.
“It was nothing short of miraculous,” a witness at the cremation told ETV Bharat. “We were all stunned. He was pronounced dead, yet there he was, alive and breathing.”
Ramavtar Meena, a Rajasthan government official in Jhunjhunu district, described the incident as “serious negligence.”
“Those responsible will face consequences. The doctors’ work practices will also undergo a thorough review,” he stated.
Meena added that a committee had been established to investigate the matter.
