Lavrov Rejects Reported Trump Team Ukraine Peace Plan “`

Russia’s foreign minister rejected a purported Ukraine-NATO peace plan, attributed to President-elect Trump’s advisors.

In a Monday interview with the Russian state-run news agency TASS, Foreign Minister Lavrov stated that the U.S. allegedly aims “to suspend hostilities and shift responsibility for confronting Russia to Europeans.”

Lavrov expressed disapproval of a reported proposal—unannounced by any American officials—to delay Ukraine’s NATO entry for two decades and deploy British and European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine.

He attributed the proposal to leaks and Trump’s recent interview, although the interview lacked any NATO references. Lavrov argued that NATO’s expansion contributed significantly to the Ukraine crisis.

The minister retorted, “Those accusing Russia should look in the mirror,” citing NATO’s alleged involvement in Ukrainian combat operations.

Lavrov further accused NATO of complicity in the Kursk region invasion and long-range missile strikes on Russia, referencing President Putin’s public statements.

During his TIME Person of the Year interview, Trump called ending the Russo-Ukrainian war advantageous, claiming Russia wouldn’t have invaded under his presidency in 2022. He questioned the rationale behind long-range missile strikes into Russia, deeming it an escalation, while expressing his desire for a negotiated settlement.

Lavrov’s comments followed President Putin’s expressed willingness to compromise with Trump, despite asserting Russia’s strengthened position compared to 2022, stating their readiness for negotiation and compromise.

Digital reached out to Trump’s team for comment but received no immediate response.
