Murder Investigation Launched After 11-Year-Old Girl Found Dead Near French School

An 11-year-old girl in France was found dead near her school Saturday morning, hours after she went missing, authorities reported.

The girl, identified as Louise, disappeared around 2 p.m. Friday on her way home from André Maurois middle school in northern France, according to officials in Épinay-sur-Orge, a commune south of Paris.

Following a search involving dogs, helicopters, and drones, investigators located her body in a wooded area.

“With deep sorrow, we announce the discovery of Louise’s lifeless body last night in the Bois des Templiers,” police stated in a Facebook post. “Upon receiving her disappearance report, all available resources were immediately deployed in the search effort.”

An autopsy revealed Louise suffered multiple sharp-object wounds, Evry public prosecutor Grégoire Dulin told Le Parisien. The murder weapon has yet to be recovered.

Dulin confirmed that an investigation into the murder of a minor under 15 has been launched.

A 23-year-old man, seen on security footage following Louise, and his 20-year-old girlfriend were initially detained but later released.

On Monday, police arrested a 23-year-old man and his 55-year-old mother. The 23-year-old is a suspect in Louise’s murder, while his mother faces charges of failing to report a crime.

Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne expressed condolences on X, stating, “Following the discovery of young Louise’s body in Essonne, I offer my deepest sympathies to her family, loved ones, classmates, and teachers. I trust the investigators and justice system to uncover the truth behind this tragedy.”

The murder investigation remains ongoing.
