At a recent Workers’ Party of Korea meeting, the North Korean government pledged its strongest-ever response to the United States.
The meeting, held December 23-27, included top party officials, among them leader Kim Jong Un. State media, KCNA, reported that leaders denounced the U.S., Japan, and South Korea’s alliances, referring to them as a “nuclear military bloc.”
The party’s statement declared that this situation dictates their future actions and direction.
This announcement follows heightened tensions with Western nations after North Korea’s alleged deployment of troops to support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Kim’s regime also condemned South Korea as an “anti-communist outpost” after this week’s events, referencing a recent attempt to impose martial law.
Following an approximately week-long silence, North Korea finally addressed the thwarted martial law attempt via its state-run news agency on December 11.
“The puppet Yoon Suk Yeol regime, facing a severe governance crisis and impeachment threat, unexpectedly declared martial law, ruthlessly wielding the tools of its fascist dictatorship,” KCNA reported.
KCNA added that the international community views the martial law incident as exposing vulnerabilities within South Korean society and potentially signaling the end of Yoon Suk Yeol’s political career.
Following the attempted power grab, South Korea’s legislature impeached Yoon, and a court is now deciding whether to confirm his removal from office.
