State Department acknowledges reports after American tourists attacked, one killed, in popular coastal destination

The State Department stated it is aware of Wednesday’s reports concerning an attack on two American tourists in a popular European coastal location, an incident that local media and police reported left one person dead and another wounded.

The alleged assault took place early Wednesday in Cascais, Portugal, a seaside resort town situated approximately 20 miles west of Lisbon.

Media reports indicate that a stabbing occurred during an attempted robbery, with Reuters video footage showing bloodstains on a sidewalk at the site.

A State Department spokesperson informed Digital that the agency is deeply committed to safeguarding U.S. citizens overseas and is prepared to offer consular assistance.

The newspaper added that the assault was perpetrated by three suspects who subsequently fled the scene in a vehicle.
