Authorities apprehended a 15-year-old student on Thursday following a stabbing incident at Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides High School in Nantes, a private Catholic institution, where he allegedly fatally stabbed one student and wounded three others.

According to a spokesperson speaking to Reuters, teachers at the school subdued the assailant before law enforcement arrived at the scene.

Education Minister Elisabeth Borne stated on X, “This afternoon, a knife attack occurred at a private school in Nantes. I, along with [Interior Minister] Bruno Retailleau, am heading there to show solidarity with the victims and offer support to the educational staff.”

The Associated Press reported that the student used a knife to stab four students during their lunch break.

 

Reuters reported that police have stated there is currently no indication of a motive.

French media outlets at the location reported that students claimed to have received an email from the perpetrator earlier that day, detailing unspecified complaints.

 

According to a report from Ouest France, a local newspaper cited by , the attacker was wearing all black attire, a helmet, and a balaclava.
