Former President Trump informed Fox News’ Bret Baier that he had prior knowledge of Israel’s planned preemptive strikes against Iran.
Trump stated that Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons and expressed hope for renewed negotiations, while also suggesting leadership changes within Iran.
The strikes reportedly resulted in the deaths of three high-ranking Iranian military officials, including IRGC Commander Hossein Salami, Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, and Commander of Iran’s Emergency Command Gholam-Ali Rashid.
Trump has reportedly spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu multiple times recently.
The previous administration reportedly notified at least one key Middle Eastern ally about the impending strike, emphasizing that the U.S. was not involved.
Trump hopes Iran will return to negotiations, despite indications that Iran intends to withdraw from further talks. A meeting between U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s team and Iranian representatives had been scheduled for Sunday in Oman.
Reports indicate that Israeli forces deployed around 200 fighter jets to strike targets within Iran, destroying numerous radar systems, surface-to-air missile launchers, and nuclear facilities. Iran allegedly launched approximately 100 retaliatory drones towards Israel, which Israeli forces are attempting to intercept.
Trump stated he is monitoring potential retaliation, and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is on high alert. He emphasized that the U.S. is prepared to defend itself and Israel should Iran retaliate. The U.S. has recently replenished Iron Dome missiles.
The former president is scheduled to attend a National Security Council meeting later Friday morning.
