Zelenskyy Receives Global Support After Reported Clash with Trump, Vance

Following a heated Oval Office meeting where President Trump and Vice President Vance reportedly criticized President Zelenskyy, accusing him of “disrespect,” European leaders have voiced strong support for Ukraine.

Several leaders used social media to support Ukraine, emphasizing that Russian President Putin is the “aggressor” in the conflict, not Zelenskyy.

The , expressed strong disapproval of Trump’s remarks, stating, “We will increase our support to Ukraine so that they can continue to fight back the aggressor.”

“Today, it became clear that the free world needs a new leader,” she added. “It’s up to us, Europeans, to take this challenge.”

, who recently met with Trump in Washington, D.C., stated, “There is an aggressor: Russia. There is a victim: Ukraine,” adding, “We were right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago — and to keep doing so.”

He further clarified, “By ‘we,’ I mean the Americans, the Europeans, the Canadians, the Japanese, and many others.”

Although , another recent visitor to Trump, has not commented publicly, Kemi Badenoch, a leader in the U.K.’s Conservative Party, expressed support for Ukraine.

In a post on X, she wrote, “Respectable diplomacy is essential for peace,” adding, “We need to remember that the villain is the war criminal President Putin who illegally invaded another sovereign country – Ukraine.”

“A divided West only benefits Russia,” she continued. “Any peace agreement must be negotiated with Ukraine at the table, and will need security guarantees. We cannot lose sight of the fact that tonight air raid sirens are sounding in Ukraine.”

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere issued a statement, according to Reuters, saying, “What we saw from the White House today is serious and disheartening.” He added, “Ukraine still needs the U.S.’s support, and Ukraine’s security and future are also important to the U.S. and to Europe.”

He also stated, “That Trump accuses Zelenskyy of gambling with World War III is deeply unreasonable and a statement I distance myself from,” and affirmed, “Norway stands with Ukraine in their struggle for freedom.”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk posted on X, “Dear Zelenskyy, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.”

Germany’s , incoming chancellor Friedrich Merz, who advocates for “independence” from the U.S., stated, “Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, we stand with Ukraine in good and in testing times. We must never confuse aggressor and victim in this terrible war.”

Notably, leaders of countries typically aligned with Trump, such as Turkey’s Recep Erdogan and Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, have not released public statements following the day’s events.

However, Russian officials voiced support for the events.

Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian President and current deputy chair of Russia’s security council, called Zelenskyy an “insolent pig” on X and claimed he “finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office.”

He added, “And Donald Trump is right: The Kyiv regime is ‘gambling with WWIII’.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also voiced his support for Ukraine, stating, “Russia illegally and unjustifiably invaded Ukraine.”

He further commented, “For three years now, Ukrainians have fought with courage and resilience,” suggesting NATO allies might support Kyiv over Washington, and affirmed, “Their fight for democracy, freedom, and sovereignty is a fight that matters to us all. Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine and Ukrainians in achieving a just and lasting peace.”
