American technology giant Apple Inc. has just officially announced its four new iPhone models for Q4 2021 to Q3 2022 through the company’s recently concluded September 14 virtual event.
As correctly predicted by Apple insiders and tech bloggers several weeks prior to this launch, this year’s iPhone Series is indeed called Apple iPhone 13 and it is made up of the following models: Apple iPhone 13 mini, Apple iPhone 13, Apple iPhone 13 Pro, and Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The two more affordable models in this series are the Apple iPhone 13 mini and Apple iPhone 13, which both feature a beautiful design with svelte flat edges in five gorgeous colorways. These devices are also IP68 Certified Dust and Water Resistant making them quite durable.
The five eye-catching aluminum color options are Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED.
According to Mr. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice-President of Worldwide Marketing, “Our customers rely on iPhone every day, which is why we’ve made iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini more powerful, more capable, and more fun to use.”
He added, “Both phones have beautiful designs, industry-leading performance, and advanced camera systems with impressive computational photography features, all with incredible durability, water resistance, and a big jump in battery life to ensure customers can depend on their iPhone when they need it. All of this, tightly integrated with iOS 15 and with privacy built-in, make iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini an unbeatable choice.”
Both the 5.4-inch Apple iPhone 13 mini and the 6.1-inch Apple iPhone 13 are powered by the 5-nanometer Apple A15 Bionic 6-core CPU with two high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores that deliver up to 50 percent faster performance than competing chipsets and handle demanding tasks smoothly and efficiently. The new 4-core GPU, on the other hand, is up to 30 percent faster than the competition and lets the user experience lifelike visuals and lighting effects even in graphics-intensive games.
The Apple iPhone 13 Series’ new 16-core Neural Engine is capable of up to 15.8 trillion operations per second. This enables even faster machine learning computations for third-party app experience and features like Live Text in Camera with iOS 15. Major advancements to the next-generation ISP along with computational photography software and powerful camera hardware, combine to create the new and exciting dual-camera system.
Big battery life improvements were implemented on both iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13. These were made possible by the A15 Bionic processor, more efficient components, a larger battery pack, and power optimizations from an efficient integration of hardware and software. The iPhone 13 mini provides up to an hour and a half more in a day than iPhone 12 mini while iPhone 13 delivers an amazing all-day battery life with up to two and a half more hours in a day more than iPhone 12.
In terms of imaging, iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 feature a new Wide camera that come with 1.7 µm pixels and the biggest sensor ever in an iPhone dual-camera system that’s capable of gathering 47 percent more light for less noisy and brighter images.
Sensor-shift Optical Image Stabilization, an imaging technology introduced in iPhone 12 Pro Max and not found in any other smartphone currently, now also comes to the Wide camera. This innovation stabilizes the sensor instead of the lens so shots look more steady, while the custom-designed Ultra-Wide camera with a new sensor captures images with more detail even in the dark areas of photos and videos greater clarity.
For aspiring videographers, there’s now Cinematic mode on iPhone that records videos of people, pets, and objects with a beautiful depth effect plus automatic focus changes, so anyone can capture cinema-style moments – with rack focus, even if they are not a professional filmmaker.
For added creative control, the focus can be adjusted during and after capture, and users can also customize the level of bokeh in the Photos app and iMovie for iOS, and coming soon to iMovie for macOS and Final Cut Pro 5. This makes the Apple iPhone 13 lineup the only devices that allow the user to edit the depth-of-field effect in video even after recording, which is a treat for aspiring filmmakers. All these are enabled by A15 Bionic and advanced machine learning algorithms, Cinematic mode records in Dolby Vision HDR.
Apple iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 offer HDR video recording with Dolby Vision, from capture all the way to editing and sharing, now supported for 4K up to 60 fps on all cameras of these handsets.
Supporting 5G technology, which is the latest and fastest in mobile broadband standards, Apple iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 13 come at very competitive prices. The iPhone 13 mini with a 5.4-inch Brighter Super Retina Display starts at $699 USD while the iPhone 13 with a 6.1-inch similar screen type dons a price tag starting at $799 USD.
