LONDON, March 31, 2025 — Globeleq’s Board of Directors, along with its shareholders, is pleased to announce the confirmation of Jonathan Hoffman, the current interim Chief Executive Officer, as the permanent CEO of the Group. The Board conducted a comprehensive search that included both internal and external candidates.

Hoffman’s journey with Globeleq began in 2010, and he was promoted to Chief Development Officer in 2020. He assumed the role of interim CEO in July 2024. He has successfully guided the development and investment team in securing deals and new investments across Africa, including the recent Red Sands project, the continent’s largest standalone battery storage initiative.
Since 2015, Globeleq has almost doubled its operational and under-construction generating capacity. Notably, the Group has been responsible for 43% of all utility-scale non-hydro renewable and gas IPP generation reaching financial close in Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa) in the 2020s.
Hoffman will now spearhead Globeleq’s next growth phase, emphasizing the energy transition in Southern Africa and Kenya. The Group possesses and manages 12 renewable power plants across South Africa, Mozambique, and Kenya, with 485 MW currently under construction and several significant projects in its development pipeline for the region. Outside Southern Africa, Globeleq will concentrate on its existing plants, which are crucial for supplying power to local communities and industries, while also generating returns for its shareholders.
Laurence Mulliez, Globeleq Chair, stated:
“I am delighted to confirm Jonathan Hoffman as Globeleq’s permanent CEO. His deep understanding of our team and portfolio makes him the ideal leader for Globeleq’s next growth phase. Since becoming Interim CEO last year, Jonathan has impressed the Board with his dedication and industry expertise.”
Jonathan Hoffman, Globeleq’s CEO, commented:
“I am excited to lead Globeleq’s talented team in fulfilling our mission and advancing the energy transition in Southern Africa. I am fully committed to solving challenges for our customers and creating value for our shareholders.”
