BARCELONA, Spain, May 15, 2025 — More than 1,520 experts from 73 nations attended the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council’s premier event, which took place from May 8–10, 2025, in Mallorca, Spain. The congress provided a worldwide venue for exchanging perspectives and innovations and tackling the nut and dried fruit industry’s future.

According to preliminary data presented during the round tables, global tree nut production for the 2025/26 season will remain stable at about 6 million metric tons (kernel basis, except pistachios in-shell), matching the previous season’s output. Macadamia, walnut, and almond production are expected to increase by 9%, 6%, and 2%, respectively. Global peanut production is predicted to increase by 2% year on year, reaching about 51.5 million metric tons (in-shell basis). Global dried fruit production is predicted to fall slightly, by 2%, to about 3.2 million metric tons.

The main issues include unpredictable weather affecting crop yields, pricing pressures, uncertainty, and tariffs. Trends included rising consumer demand for nutritious, sustainable, and reasonably priced foods. There is also an increasing demand for clean labels, traceability, and environmentally friendly packaging.

A key event of the congress was the introduction of the INC Sustainability Certification, presented by INC Executive Director Goretti Guasch. The certification, designed for INC members, strengthens verified sustainability initiatives and improves supply chain transparency, which are critical for meeting rising consumer and retailer expectations.

Other significant events included a keynote address by Toni Nadal, longtime coach of tennis star Rafa Nadal, titled “Building a Champion’s Mindset,” which focused on resilience and growth in the face of adversity. The Nutrition Research Seminar presented scientific data in support of the health advantages of nuts and dried fruits, while a panel on Contracts and Consequences addressed legal concerns for the sector.

The INC also recognized excellence. Mercadona won the Corporate Golden Nut Award, Restaurant Disfrutar was honored for Excellence in Gastronomy, and Dr. David Baer of the USDA was recognized for Excellence in Research.

During the congress, the INC’s leadership transitioned from Mr. Michael Waring of MWT Foods, Australia, to Mr. Ashok Krishen of ofi, Singapore, as the new Chairman. Mr. Krishen highlighted his main goals for the future, emphasizing:

“It’s an honor to be the INC’s new Chairman. Looking ahead, our top three priorities are to continuously boost consumption, promote the health benefits of nuts and dried fruits, and pioneer sustainability in the industry!”

The congress came to a close with a shared dedication to the industry’s expansion.
