According to Adam Stahl, Senior Official Performing the Duties of Deputy TSA Administrator, DHS and TSA are dedicated to ensuring a smooth and stress-free airport security experience for families. The “Families on the Fly” campaign, which is being introduced at select airports, is designed to address the specific challenges families encounter during travel and reduce stress while maintaining top-notch security.

The “Families on the Fly” program provides the following benefits:

  • Dedicated family lanes are available at select airports across the country.
  • Discounted TSA PreCheck® fees for families will be available soon.
  • Designated TSA PreCheck lanes are available for service members and their families.

Currently, Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport (CLT) are participating. The program will expand to John Wayne Orange County Airport (SNA) and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu.

This initiative is one of several launched by the TSA to enhance customer service at its 435 airports nationwide. “Families on the Fly” will be implemented at select airports, including Charleston International Airport (CHS), Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD), Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), and Tampa International Airport (TPA). Additional airports are expected to join in the coming months. Earlier this summer, the TSA launched the “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” campaign to recognize the dedication and sacrifices of military personnel, uniformed service members, and their families. In partnership with industry stakeholders, the TSA has introduced expedited access for military members in TSA PreCheck lanes at certain airports near major military bases. This includes dedicated screening lanes or priority access, aimed at minimizing wait times and improving convenience for service members.

The TSA reminds travelers that military personnel and civilian Department of Defense (DOD) employees can get free TSA PreCheck by using their DOD ID number as their Known Traveler Number when booking flights. Children aged 12 and under can accompany service members and DOD staff in TSA PreCheck lanes without any restrictions. Minors aged 13-17 must be on the same airline reservation as a parent or guardian with TSA PreCheck eligibility to receive expedited screening.

Additionally, the  program is still available for veterans and wounded warriors, offering customized support throughout the screening process to ensure a respectful travel experience.

The TSA advises all travelers to be prepared for airport security screening, especially during the busy summer travel period. Visit for more detailed information.
