HIMEJI, Japan, Nov. 26, 2025 — The Himeji Convention & Visitors Bureau is launching an immersive art event at Himeji Castle, a World Cultural Heritage site designated as a national treasure by the Japanese government, beginning November 22. The bureau will also introduce three other events taking place in Himeji City during the winter season.

Himeji City, situated in the southwest of Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan, is a historic and cultural hub that has evolved around Himeji Castle, a World Heritage site and national treasure. Known as “White Egret Castle” for its striking appearance, it has become one of Japan’s most famous tourist attractions, drawing numerous visitors from both Japan and abroad. While preserving its castle town ambiance, the city also boasts modern urban facilities, offering a wide array of attractions to visitors.

With its diverse tourist offerings, Himeji is a popular destination for a broad spectrum of people, from history enthusiasts to family travelers and couples. Blending history, culture, nature, and modern charm, Himeji is widely cherished as one of the leading tourist spots in the Kansai region.

1. Himeji Castle Light-up Event “DANDELION Himeji Castle x NAKED, INC.”
This year’s theme is “Peace,” showcased through light art installations. Naked INC. is handling the planning and direction, providing visitors with an “art experience that connects hearts wishing for peace” that transcends generations and borders. To maximize accessibility, admission is free this year for individuals under 18.

2. Himeji Otemae Street Illumination
Under the guidance of Mikiko Ishii, the illuminations are themed “Atara Yo” (a night so beautiful it’s a shame to see it end), featuring approximately 250,000 full-color LEDs whose colors and movements change hourly. These illuminations will also be coordinated with Himeji Castle’s colorful cloud illuminations, creating a harmonious effect. Special color displays will be presented during Christmas, New Year’s, and other festive periods.

In addition to the popular “photo spot in front of the station inspired by a white heron,” a new photogenic area will be set up utilizing the shutters and walls of Otemae Street as a canvas, fostering an atmosphere enjoyable for a wide range of people, including couples, friends, and families.

At Karo Yashiki Ruins Park, the full-color LEDs installed last year to light up the trees and light effects that respond to people’s movements will be enhanced by new lantern objects, creating an even more captivating space.
