Despite Labeling It ‘One of the More Difficult’ Conflicts, Trump Cites ‘Progress’ on Ukraine-Russia Deal

President Trump has stated that Ukraine and Russia are “making progress” toward a peace agreement, though he acknowledged the conflict remains “difficult” to resolve.

These remarks were made by Trump to reporters aboard Air Force One on Tuesday evening, offering insights into the ongoing situation. He further mentioned that U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff would soon be engaging in discussions in Moscow, potentially accompanied by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

“We are engaged in productive discussions,” Trump stated. “Ukraine appears to be faring well. I believe they are quite pleased with the situation. I wish to see this conflict conclude, and while we won’t know the outcome immediately, we are indeed making headway.”

“Having resolved eight wars previously, I initially believed this would be simpler given my connection with President Putin; however, it has proven to be among the more challenging conflicts. A significant amount of animosity exists,” he elaborated.

Trump noted Europe’s substantial involvement in establishing security guarantees for Ukraine, aimed at preventing any renewed aggression from Russia.

Last week, a 28-point peace plan presented to U.S. lawmakers had drawn criticism. Several lawmakers, including members of the Republican party, initially characterized it as a “wish list” favorable to Russia.

Speaking on Tuesday evening, Trump downplayed the significance of that plan, informing reporters it was merely “a map.”

“That was entirely a map, not a definitive plan. It served as a concept. From that, each of the 28 points is being addressed, leading to a reduction to 22 points. Many of these have been resolved, and quite advantageously so. Therefore, we will observe the developments,” he explained.

Despite the rapid pace of discussions, Trump stated he has no specific deadline for reaching an agreement.

“My deadline is simply when the conflict concludes,” he declared. “I believe everyone is weary of combat at this juncture. Too many lives are being lost.”
