Importers had previously declared only the raw aluminum value, excluding the substantial value added during processing, thereby importing manufactured aluminum goods at rates significantly lower than intended. The new order mandates that the full value be reported, ensuring a level playing field and extending tariff advantages across the entire aluminum supply chain.

“President Trump’s Executive Order represents a crucial move in the right direction to completely enforce the 50% aluminum tariff, a metal vital to our national security,” stated APAA President Mark Duffy. “Importers who falsify valuations compromise national security. We commend President Trump for his firm leadership, which is generating thousands of jobs in the American aluminum sector and billions in new domestic investments.”

This Executive Order does not modify the current Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs; instead, it addresses a loophole that has eroded their effectiveness and credibility. President Trump is dedicated to ensuring these measures are strictly enforced. By closing this gap, the entire aluminum supply chain will benefit from the tariff.
