OTTAWA, ON, May 26, 2025 – As the new government prepares to present its agenda for the upcoming parliamentary session, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) is calling on them to follow through on their campaign commitments. These include improving access to care, increasing the number of graduating doctors, establishing new clinics, and supporting Indigenous-led healthcare initiatives.
The CMA welcomes the fact that the Liberal platform during the recent election incorporated its proposals for enhancing healthcare for all Canadians. With Canadians already burdened by economic and affordability challenges, access to healthcare should not be an additional concern.
The CMA supports Prime Minister Carney’s view that national unity is a source of strength. Healthcare solutions require a collaborative, nationwide approach rather than isolated, piecemeal efforts by individual levels of government. Meaningful improvements to the healthcare system that address the needs of Canadians require federal leadership and widespread collaboration.
The CMA is prepared to collaborate with the new government to implement solutions that will make our healthcare system a key driver of Canada’s economic agenda.
