Employees are striking for health care and retirement benefits as the company delays negotiations.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 24, 2026 — Members of Teamsters Local 631, who work for Rinker Quikrete, a leading national manufacturer of building materials, have begun a strike after contract discussions with the company reached an impasse. These employees, responsible for producing concrete pipe and box culverts, are demanding essential safeguards for their health care, retirement plans, and wages. This action follows the company’s presentation of a concessionary contract proposal, which was overwhelmingly rejected by the union membership.

“Quikrete owes its status as one of the country’s most profitable construction material firms to its dedicated Teamster workforce,” stated Tommy Blitsch, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 631. “Our members are prepared to stand firm for as long as it takes. If Quikrete believes we will yield, they are in for a prolonged struggle.”

Discussions with Quikrete broke down after the company insisted on numerous union concessions, despite reporting hundreds of millions in annual earnings. During negotiations, Quikrete attempted to remove workers from their existing union health insurance and pension schemes, proposing company-sponsored alternatives designed to diminish employee benefits.

“It is profoundly distressing that Quikrete intends to revoke our health care. I have a child battling cancer, and the company is forcing me to choose between my earnings and her medication,” shared Jose Lovos, a Quikrete Teamster and member of Local 631. “We are not merely striking for our employment; we are striking for what could mean life or death for our families. We will persist until the health care and retirement plans our families depend on are secured.”

The employees will continue their picket line until Rinker Quikrete returns to the bargaining table in good faith and withdraws its concessionary contract offer.
