BEIJING, Jan. 15, 2026 — The 30-minute documentary “Through Ice and Snow,” a co-production of China Review Studio and Yingda Media Investment Group Company, Ltd., will launch globally on multiple platforms starting January 15, 2026.
“Through Ice and Snow” chronicles the efforts of grassroots power grid workers in the Daliang Mountains as they endure harsh winter conditions to protect the vital energy corridor of China’s west-to-east power transmission initiative. The film highlights their ingenuity, perseverance, and commitment when confronting danger.
It centers on a maintenance team operating deep within the Daliang Mountains. Accompanied by their new de-icing robot partner, “Bluey,” they journey into the mountains to perform critical ice removal. The team, led by Wei Kailin, is consistently tested by dense fog, sub-zero temperatures, and powerful winds, yet they emerge more resilient from each challenge. They successfully secure the transmission lines, and “Bluey” gains proficiency through their teamwork. Despite technological advances, the extreme geography and climate of the Daliang Mountains leave some zones inaccessible to machines. Wei Kailin and his crew, however, are seasoned veterans of repeatedly navigating these treacherous ridges, guaranteeing the power grid’s safety through the winter months.
As climate concerns draw worldwide focus, this documentary provides an on-the-ground view of energy security. It illustrates the growing collaboration between technology and human labor in China’s mission to surmount natural obstacles for green energy, while also offering a compelling depiction of the ethos and resolve of modern China’s frontline workers.
