  • Since 2023, the study conducted by Fondazione MAIRE – ETS in collaboration with Ipsos Doxa has been tracking global public awareness of the energy transition, surveying 2,850 individuals and 25 experts across 17 nations.
  • Germany stands out as a highly informed and pragmatic nation regarding the energy transition, though the primary impetus seems to be moving towards developing economies.

(SeaPRwire) –   MILAN and BERLIN, March 27, 2026The fourth iteration of “Climate Goals: winning the challenge of climate goals through the creation of skills and competences worldwide” (Addendum 3: Focus on Germany) was unveiled at the Italian Embassy in Berlin. This study, spearheaded by Fondazione MAIRE – ETS and executed in partnership with Ipsos Doxa, with backing from MAIRE, has been tracking global public understanding and perception of the energy transition since 2023. Its scope extends beyond just low- or zero-emission energy generation to encompass the evolution of industrial processes, products, business models, and patterns of distribution and consumption.

MAIRE

The 2026 edition, which specifically examines Germany, The Netherlands and Poland, incorporates perspectives from 2,850 individuals and includes the insights of 25 experts across 17 countries spanning four continents: Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE for the Middle East; India, China, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey for Asia; USA, Chile and Argentina for the Americas; Algeria in Africa; Germany, Italy, Poland, The Netherlands and UK for Europe.

Germany1 – with 64% awareness – distinguishes itself through its significant understanding of the energy transition and a practical outlook, viewing it as both an environmental imperative and an industrial progression. Germans regard the energy transition as a challenging undertaking demanding immediate action to realize future opportunities, with growing focus on the concrete structural and infrastructural obstacles that need to be addressed for its completion. This viewpoint is underpinned by a “tripartitegovernance model, where politicians, private industry, and citizens share responsibilities. Nevertheless, private enterprises are increasingly seen as the main catalysts for operational advancement.

The progression is considered a purely technical undertaking, grounded in Germany’s established excellence across its energy, engineering and construction, and automotive industries. It necessitates the immediate enhancement of workforce skills to cultivate “hybrid” professionals possessing both technical and interpersonal competencies.

Despite this, the 2026 study results corroborate the belief that the primary impetus for the energy transition has moved away from European nations. Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland are adopting a more cautious, and at times skeptical, stance, particularly when evaluating priorities and the balance between expenditures and advantages.

MAIRE, a prominent engineering group, delivers technology solutions and project implementation for extensive and intricate projects within the energy and chemicals sectors.
