SÃO PAULO, July 11, 2025 — JBS has invested over US$ 7 million in tracking cattle and assisting small-scale producers in Pará. This investment supports a groundbreaking state initiative aiming to trace all cattle and buffaloes in the region by the close of 2026. The outcomes of JBS’s efforts were shared during the “Expedition to the Sustainable Meat and Leather Market of Pará,” an event hosted by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Brazil.

This initiative is part of a larger collaboration involving the government, producers, civil organizations, and the industry. JBS has already committed US$ 5 million to its Traceability Accelerator Program. This program encourages the use of animal tracking tags among the company’s indirect suppliers, including the donation of 2 million ear tags to producers and 175 readers to the Pará State Agricultural Defense Agency (Adepará).
The Accelerator Program initially targets Southeast Pará, specifically the area between Marabá and Santana do Araguaia. JBS teams and partner organizations are conducting on-site visits to identify and work with farms, collaborating directly with traceability operators trained and certified by the State of Pará. The readers provided by the company record data from the animals’ identification tags, allowing for the monitoring of individual cattle throughout the state, which has the second-largest cattle population in Brazil.
“Our actions were created to expand the state program by supporting direct and indirect suppliers, with the ability to manage up to 2 million tags for herd traceability. This phase is vital for overcoming obstacles and testing traceability tools and solutions on a large scale,” stated Fábio Dias, JBS’s Head of Sustainable Livestock, at the event.
In a strategic alliance with Adepará and TNC, the JBS Traceability Accelerator Program already has partner companies handling field operations. Future expansion is planned for other regions of the state, including the Southwest (Altamira, Anapu, and Pacajá), the Lower Amazon (Belterra and Santarém), and the Marajó region. There is also interest in replicating this model in other states.
JBS has also dedicated a significant portion of its investment to the Green Offices in Pará, allocating US$ 2 million to the program since 2021. These offices provide complimentary, specialized support for the environmental regularization of rural properties, with a particular focus on small producers.
The primary goal of the JBS Green Offices is to assist producers from registration to validation in the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), encourage participation in the Environmental Regularization Program (PRA) when relevant, assist in lifting embargoes, and help non-compliant producers regain commercial eligibility. Additionally, they connect producers to requalification programs such as SIRFLOR and Reconecta in Pará.
JBS operates four physical offices in the state, located in the Southeast region (Santana do Araguaia, Redenção, Tucumã, and Marabá). Regularization is expedited through the Sustainable Territories Platform (PTS), in partnership with the State Secretariat for Environment and Sustainability (SEMAS). Since 2024, the offices have also provided technical and managerial assistance to producers (EV 2.0).
Nationally, the results are substantial: since the launch of the JBS Green Offices program in 2021, 18,042 farms have been regularized, and 7,005 hectares are undergoing forest restoration.
