(SeaPRwire) – SEOUL, South Korea, April 2, 2026 — LG Corp. Chairman and CEO Kwang Mo Koo recently traveled to the United States to evaluate the group’s long-term growth strategies, with a primary focus on energy infrastructure as a foundational element of the AI era.
This visit underscores Chairman Koo’s dedication to establishing a dominant position in the Energy Storage System (ESS) sector, which has become vital infrastructure due to the rapid expansion of AI technologies. During his visit, Koo emphasized the need to secure market leadership in energy infrastructure to support the growing demands of AI data centers and physical AI applications.
On March 30, Chairman Koo toured LG Energy Solution Vertech, a subsidiary based in Westborough, Massachusetts, that focuses on ESS System Integration.
“We must build a robust business foundation that remains stable regardless of external conditions,” Koo remarked during the tour. “Beyond merely providing ESS battery hardware, we need to strengthen our integrated solution offerings to deliver greater value to our clients, ensuring we maintain a commanding lead in the market.”
His comments highlight that as the need for batteries surges—fueled by AI data centers and physical AI—the ability to merge hardware with software-based integrated solutions will serve as a key competitive advantage.
LG intends to drive qualitative growth in its battery division by combining its world-class manufacturing capabilities with expertise in software-based operation and management, specifically targeting the energy infrastructure requirements of the AI era.
The ESS market is seeing rapid expansion driven by the growth of AI data centers, industrial electrification, and the shift toward renewable energy. In high-performance computing environments like AI data centers, ESS has transitioned from simple storage to essential infrastructure for managing power loads and ensuring supply stability.
According to energy industry analysts, the global ESS market is expected to expand nearly 2.5 times, rising from approximately 300GWh last year to 750GWh by 2030.
LG is taking proactive steps to address these market changes. LG Energy Solution has launched Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries at a strategic time, matching their rise as a global standard for ESS. Furthermore, the company is repurposing five of its North American manufacturing facilities into dedicated ESS production lines to address increasing local demand. Currently, LG Energy Solution remains the only company manufacturing and supplying ESS batteries within North America.
Collaboration with Vertech is also being intensified. Vertech offers comprehensive SI capabilities, encompassing ESS design, installation, maintenance, and software-driven operational management. This enables LG to provide a “one-stop shop” for clients, managing everything from battery supply to installation and long-term technical support.
