TOKYO, Jan. 28, 2026 — Polyplastics Co., Ltd., a worldwide leader in engineering thermoplastics, has introduced two new DURAFIDE(R) polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) grades containing mechanically recycled material. The 40% glass fiber-reinforced grades, designated DURAFIDE(R) rG-PPS 1140A1R00 and 1140A1R30 (featuring 100% and 30% recycled glass fiber-reinforced PPS content, in that order), are scheduled for release in the coming months.

This new product launch falls under Polyplastics’ DURACIRCLE(R) initiative, aimed at reaching full circularity for engineering plastics. These grades are provided via the company’s re-compounding service, which uses manufacturing scrap gathered from clients as feedstock through its “Open PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme.”
Manufacturing high-quality products involves sourcing glass fiber-reinforced PPS process scrap from partner firms that adhere to stringent standards. Following thorough inspection, sorting, and reformulation, the materials are compounded in ideal conditions and receive identical quality assurance checks as new, virgin materials. Polyplastics will distribute these products through its international sales channels. Presently, the collection program is focused on particular grades of glass-filled DURAFIDE(R) PPS.
For the success of the re-compounding operation and the “Open PIR Mechanical Recycling Scheme,” creating new applications and establishing reliable collection pathways is crucial. The company is pursuing strategies that involve partnerships not just with current customers but also with organizations across different waste-to-value sectors.
Polyplastics is considering expanding its portfolio with additional mechanically recycled PPS grades based on market demand. The objective is to establish independent, localized recycling loops that operate on a “local production for local consumption” model in each country and region globally. Concurrently, by broadening the types of materials used to include post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, Polyplastics will boost its capability to supply dependable, high-grade recycled materials. This approach will help lower environmental footprint and improve responsiveness to the varied requirements of customers.
