A large turnout and efficient operations signify a milestone for Kentucky’s medical cannabis program.
LEXINGTON, Ky., Jan. 16, 2026 — Speakeasy Dispensary officially opened to registered medical cannabis patients in Lexington on Thursday, January 15, indicating a successful first – day operation for the Commonwealth’s emerging medical cannabis market.
Situated at 1849 Alysheba Way, the dispensary received around 500 patients on its opening day. Despite the continuous queues, Speakeasy managed to keep the average patient wait time under 15 minutes, which shows a well – organized, patient – centered launch supported by a trained and attentive staff.
For many patients, this was their first time inside a medical cannabis dispensary. Speakeasy’s team aims to meet each patient’s needs, providing one – on – one guidance during the visit in a purposefully designed and welcoming space — from the jockey – club – inspired lobby to the Speakeasy sales floor — leading to positive early patient feedback on the opening day.
“The opening day was a crucial validation — not only for Speakeasy but for Kentucky’s medical cannabis program overall,” said Casey Flippo, CEO of Gold Leaf Management. “We knew patients would come with questions, concerns, and high expectations, and I’m proud of how our team performed. Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, January 14, Speakeasy held an official ribbon – cutting ceremony, inviting Governor Andy Beshear, industry professionals, and local and state officials. The event recognized the opening of one of the Commonwealth’s first licensed medical cannabis dispensaries and emphasized the collaborative effort among regulators, operators, and community partners to make patient access a reality.
“We’ve fulfilled our promise to make safe medical cannabis accessible to Kentuckians with serious conditions at the Speakeasy Dispensary in Lexington,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “People suffering from PTSD, cancer, and multiple sclerosis deserve relief to live with less pain, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made. Congratulations to the Speakeasy Dispensary team and everyone involved in making this day possible.”
As one of the first medical cannabis dispensaries to open in Kentucky, Speakeasy continues to focus on patient education, responsible access, and long – term program sustainability. While product availability will increase as more licensed cultivators and processors start operating, the dispensary’s main goal is to offer a reliable and transparent experience based on patient needs.

Speakeasy Dispensary Lexington is now open to registered medical cannabis patients with valid identification and physician certification.
