SURREY, BC, July 5, 2025 – Unifor Local 3000 members employed at the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford Hotel are getting ready to strike later today.

According to Unifor’s Western Regional Director, Gavin McGarrigle, the employer’s actions have forced the union’s hand. He stated that the members are essential to the hotel’s operation and, after more than a year without a fair agreement, are willing to strike to gain respect and equitable wages.

Unifor Local 3000’s members voted against a preliminary agreement with the company. The union will be in a legal position to strike starting at 12:45 p.m. Pacific Time on July 5, 2025.

The bargaining unit consists of 120 full-time and 24 part-time employees, who have been without a contract since April 2024.

Pacific Reach Properties, an investment firm based in Vancouver with holdings in real estate, hospitality, healthcare, and technology, owns and runs the Sheraton Vancouver Guildford.

The company has outsourced its human resources and collective bargaining duties to Hospitality Industrial Relations (HIR), a Vancouver-based organization representing multiple employers that negotiates on behalf of numerous hotel and tourism businesses in British Columbia.

Adrian Burnett, President of Unifor Local 3000, stated that Sheraton wages have not kept pace with the rising cost of living in the Lower Mainland. He added that their members are struggling to make ends meet while working for a hotel owned by a wealthy company, which he deems unacceptable.

Unifor members overwhelmingly supported strike action if needed, sending a clear message to the employer that a fair agreement must be reached. The union is still dedicated to negotiating a deal at the bargaining table but is prepared to strike if no agreement is reached.

Unifor is Canada’s largest private sector union, representing 320,000 workers across all major economic sectors. The union advocates for the rights of all working people, fights for equality and social justice both in Canada and internationally, and strives for progressive change to create a better future.
