5d0f16a86f59bcadd9c295899c07590e 1 YVR celebrates additional Asia-Pacific connections with inaugural T'way flight to Seoul

The new airline strengthens YVR’s position as a global hub, a crucial driver of trade and economic growth.

MUSQUEAM TERRITORY and RICHMOND, BC, July 12, 2025 – Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is proud to be the first airport in North America to welcome regularly scheduled flights from South Korean airline, T’way Air. The first flight today launches a year-round service operating four times a week between Incheon International Airport (ICN) in Seoul and YVR, further solidifying YVR’s position as the primary North American gateway to the Asia-Pacific region.

The new T’way service gives the community even greater flexibility and convenience when traveling to South Korea and connecting throughout Asia. However, the benefits extend beyond passenger travel. The additional air connection increases cargo capacity, further diversifying trading markets and facilitating the transport of British Columbian and Canadian goods to consumers in Asia and worldwide. Cargo leaving YVR reached record levels in 2024, with over 339,000 tonnes of goods shipped through the airport. South Korea is YVR’s second-largest air export destination.

British Columbia has a longstanding, strong relationship with South Korea and is home to a sizable Korean community that continues to significantly enrich our province’s cultural diversity and economic well-being,” said B.C. Premier David Eby. “These affordable, direct flights will make it easier for people to maintain connections with friends and family across the Pacific. They will also expedite and simplify business operations with our fourth-largest trading partner, thereby reinforcing our economic bonds amidst global instability.”

“This new service to South Korea is more than just enhanced travel convenience—it’s a strategic move that invests in connectivity, trade, and Canada’s role in the global marketplace,” said Tamara Vrooman, President and CEO at YVR. “YVR is thrilled to further expand our capacity to connect Canada with the world, support businesses and families, attract investments, and enhance the resilience of our supply chains.”

Each new international route from YVR provides direct economic advantages. The flight to Seoul is projected to generate $39.8 million in economic output, $20.8 million in GDP, and 237 full-time jobs in the province.

“The launch of our Vancouver–Incheon route is more than just adding a new destination; it’s about building a significant bridge that connects people, cultures, and economic opportunities,” said Mr. Sang Yoon Lee, CEO of T’way Air. “As the first Korean low-cost carrier to serve Canada, we’re excited to welcome travelers aboard for flights to Korea while maintaining our commitment to reliable service.”

Before the inaugural 11-hour flight departed, Elders from Musqueam, along with Musqueam Councillor Morgan Guerin, used traditional songs and raised hands to wish passengers well on their journey. Since 2017, the Musqueam-YVR Sustainability & Friendship Agreement, a 30-year commitment based on respect, reconciliation, and shared prosperity, has guided this relationship.

T’way flights from Vancouver to Seoul are scheduled to leave YVR at 5:25 p.m. local time, arriving at ICN the following day at 9:35 p.m. local time. T’way is using an Airbus 330-300 aircraft for this route, offering 347 seats, including lie-flat options in its Business Saver class, and transporting approximately 2,700 passengers each week.

Established in 2010, T’way Air is a low-cost carrier that serves over 40 destinations within South Korea and internationally, including Europe, Asia, Australia, and now North America with the introduction of service to YVR.
