Israel Kills Houthi Prime Minister and Other Senior Officials in Yemen Airstrike

On Saturday, the Defense Forces announced that they had eliminated the Houthi prime minister along with several other high-ranking officials during an operation in Yemen.

The IDF confirmed in a social media update, stating, “Houthi Prime Minister, Ahmed Al-Rahawi, alongside other senior figures of the Houthi terrorist government, were eliminated during an IDF strike conducted in Sanaa, Yemen.”

According to the IDF, the strike targeted a Houthi location where officials overseeing “the deployment of force, the military development of the Houthi terror regime, and the furtherance of terrorist operations against Israel” were present. The IDF further stated its commitment to “continue to target all threats against Israeli civilians.”

The Israeli Air Force executed the airstrike on Thursday, utilizing intelligence information collected by the IDF.

The IDF explained that “the strike was facilitated by capitalizing on an intelligence opportunity and completing a swift operational cycle, which was concluded within a matter of hours.”

A Houthi declaration confirmed the demise of Al-Rahawi.

This marked Israel’s second operation against the Houthis in Yemen within a single week.

Earlier on Sunday, Israel had struck the capital of Yemen in retaliation for missiles launched by the Houthis. That incident resulted in six fatalities and 86 injuries, as reported by Reuters, citing a spokesperson for the Houthi Health Ministry.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who was present at the IDF central command during the assault, stated, “As we cautioned the Houthis in Yemen: ‘Following the plague of darkness arrives the plague of death.'” He added, “Anyone who threatens Israel will have their hand severed.”

The IDF had previously asserted that the Houthis were engaging in activities designed to harm Israel and its partners. The IDF also attributed to the Houthis “undermining regional stability and disrupting global maritime navigation.”

According to YNet, Thursday’s strikes were initiated following Israel’s interception of two drones originating from Yemen and occurred while Houthi leader Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi was delivering a speech. The Israeli news source further indicated that the speech proceeded uninterrupted.

The confrontation between Israel and the Houthis has persisted for close to two years.

The Iran-supported militant group issued a threat to attack Israel mere days after Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre. Within weeks of the Hamas assaults, the Houthis launched missiles and drones towards Israel, which were intercepted by U.S. forces positioned on the USS Carney.

The Houthis have maintained their attacks against Israel.
