An individual attempting to disrupt the Tour de France cycling race was quickly apprehended.
The man breached a barricade close to the finish line, advancing towards the cyclists while reportedly voicing objections to Israel’s involvement and holding unidentifiable objects.
Security personnel responded promptly, with one guard intercepting the demonstrator approximately 25 meters from the finish line, tackling him, and then forcibly returning him over the barrier into onlookers.
This notable event occurred during Stage 11 of the three-week competition, as top cyclists approached the conclusion of the 97.5-mile route near Toulouse.
Online video footage of the occurrence rapidly circulated, depicting the man in a shirt stating “Israel out of the Tour” and holding a keffiyeh, a scarf frequently linked to Palestinian advocacy.
“These pro-Palestinians are truly the worst. Imagine dedicating your life to this,” one online commenter remarked on the video.
“Security was not to be trifled with — an anti-Israel demonstrator ran onto the track, but was tackled, had their ear grabbed, and was removed in a single quick action,” another individual commented.
This demonstration took place subsequent to the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement designating the Israel Premier-Tech team as “Team Genocide” and advocating for non-violent protests at significant cycling events where the team participates, such as the Giro d’Italia, Vuelta a España, and Tour de France.
The organization urged for additional “peaceful protests” along the course.
“Let’s make certain the roads are inaccessible to those perpetrating genocide,”
The Tour de France, comprising 21 stages, is scheduled to conclude on July 27 along the Champs-Élysées in Paris.
