On Thursday, the President indicated his administration is “trying” to reclaim the former U.S. Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan from the Taliban.
During remarks to the press, delivered while standing with U.K. Prime Minister Kier Starmer, the president criticized the way the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan was managed under President Joe Biden and announced he had “a little breaking news.”
“We’re trying to get it back,” Trump stated. “We’re trying to get it back because they need things from us.”
Trump did not elaborate on who he was referring to or, if speaking of the Taliban—the terrorist organization that took control of the country in 2021—what “they” required from the United States.
“We want that base back, but one of the reasons we want the base is, as you know, it’s an hour away from where China makes its nuclear weapons,” Trump also mentioned.
The White House did not provide an immediate response to Digital’s questions concerning the president’s assertions.
