Two arrested, including Iranian man, after alleged attempt to enter UK nuclear missile base

(SeaPRwire) –   Authorities confirmed to Digital that two individuals were arrested following an alleged unsuccessful attempt to gain entry to Scotland’s HM Naval Base Clyde on Thursday.

According to a report by The Telegraph, one of the suspects was an Iranian man, and the other was a woman whose nationality is unknown.

Police Scotland stated to Digital, “Around 5pm on Thursday, 19 March, 2026, we were made aware of two people attempting to enter HM Naval Base Clyde. A 34-year-old man and 31-year-old woman have been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”

The Telegraph identified the man as Iranian and noted the woman’s nationality was not immediately available. The report, citing The Times, indicated the individuals were denied access to the base for not having the proper passes and were subsequently arrested nearby on suspicion of “acting suspiciously in the vicinity.”

In a statement to Digital, a Royal Navy spokesperson said, “Police Scotland have arrested two people who unsuccessfully attempted to enter HM Naval Base Clyde on Thursday 19 March. As the matter is subject to an ongoing investigation, we will not comment further.”

HM Naval Base Clyde, also referred to as Faslane, is recognized as the main base for the United Kingdom’s missile fleet.

The Royal Navy states that the facility hosts “to the core of the Submarine Service, including the nation’s nuclear deterrent, and the new generation of hunter-killer submarines.”

According to the U.K. Parliament, the Royal Navy’s entire fleet of nine submarines is based at HM Naval Base Clyde.

It added, “Five of those are conventionally-armed nuclear-powered attack submarines of the Astute class. A further four are ballistic missiles submarines (SSBN) of the Vanguard class that comprise the UK’s submarine-based nuclear deterrent.”
