US, Ukrainian, and Russian delegations agree to prisoner exchange, announces US envoy Witkoff

On Thursday, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Peace Missions Steve Witkoff announced that delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and Russia have reached an agreement to swap hundreds of prisoners.

A statement released on Thursday declared, “Today, delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and Russia agreed to exchange 314 prisoners — the first such exchange in five months.”

The statement continued, “This result follows detailed and productive peace talks. Although considerable work is still ahead, actions of this kind show that ongoing diplomatic efforts are producing concrete outcomes and moving forward the initiative to end the war in Ukraine.”

“Discussions are set to proceed, with further progress expected in the following weeks. We extend our gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for hosting these talks and to President Donald J. Trump for his leadership in facilitating this agreement,” the statement added.

The administration of President Donald Trump has been working to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.

In a Wednesday post on Truth Social, the president stated that “the War between Russia/Ukraine” was among the subjects discussed during a phone conversation that day with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In a Tuesday post on X, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said he “would urge President Trump to start a process to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles which would be a game changer militarily.”

Graham stated, “In the coming days and weeks, we must apply more pressure to Putin. Any negotiation perceived as excessively rewarding aggression will trigger catastrophes globally. The reverse is also valid. If talks lead to a free, strong, and independent Ukraine — even if it had to make concessions — the world will be significantly more stable.”
