Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Sunday that he has engaged in discussions with President, marking their second conversation in two days. He characterized these talks, which focused on the conflict with Russia, Ukraine’s military capacities, and its energy sector, as “highly productive.”
In a post on X, he wrote that his talks with Trump “covered all aspects of the situation,” encompassing Ukraine’s defense of life within the country and bolstering its air defense, resilience, and long-range capabilities. Zelenskyy further indicated that “many details” concerning the energy sector were also reviewed, though he provided no specific elaborations on any of the subjects.
“President Trump possesses a thorough understanding of current events,” Zelenskyy stated. “We have committed to maintaining our dialogue, and our respective teams are making their preparations.”
These discussions between Trump and Zelenskyy occur amidst ongoing drone and missile assaults by Moscow on Ukraine, which resulted in at least 20 injuries in Kyiv and extensive power outages on Friday. Additionally, a child was killed in a separate Russian attack in the country’s southeast.
Late Saturday and early Sunday, Moscow’s forces attacked Ukraine’s power grid, with the apparent aim of degrading Ukrainian energy infrastructure ahead of winter.
This most recent assault on the grid, consistent with Russia’s annual pre-winter actions, coincided with Moscow voicing “extreme concern” regarding the potential U.S. provision of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine.
Late last month, Trump exerted new influence in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, authorizing Ukraine to employ U.S. weapons for strikes deep into Russian territory, contemplating whether to, and pledging that Ukraine would reclaim all its land.
