The city is recognized for its commitment to civic excellence and resident well-being, surpassing nearly 100 other entrants.

CLEARWATER, Fla., Jan. 23, 2025 — Community Playmaker, a media platform celebrating civic leaders and providing resources to improve resident quality of life across the United States, has named Greeley, Colorado its 2024 Community of the Year. This honor was achieved by the city of nearly 113,000 residents, competing against almost 100 other communities of varying sizes.

The Community of the Year Award celebrates cities and their leaders who drive progress. It highlights innovative programs fostering economic growth, community engagement, work and recreational opportunities, public safety, arts and culture, and inclusive environments for all citizens.

Numerous cities nationwide submitted applications. Entrants ranged from towns with over 1,000 residents to some of America’s largest cities.

A panel of experts evaluated applications based on the scope and impact of quality-of-life projects, among other factors. While many impressive entries were received, one stood out.

Greeley exemplifies a city collaborating across departments and with residents to realize its community vision with determination and focus,” stated Ashley Whittaker, Community Playmaker’s editor-in-chief. “From initiatives like their gBeta business incubator program to cultural events such as the Arts Picnic and Blues Festival, and their ‘Housing for All’ initiative, their ongoing efforts are truly inspiring.”

Greeley’s leaders have comprehensively enhanced the quality of life and attracted new residents. Their achievements include:

  • The Housing for All initiative—A strategic plan to attract diverse housing development and assist residents of all income levels in homeownership.
  • gBETA—A Gener8tor-run incubator program, funded by the city, offering mentorship and support to Greeley’s technology startups.
  • A new mixed-use development in West Greeley, projected to include 6,000 new homes, 3.5 million square feet of retail space, a youth hockey arena, an indoor waterpark, and a 350-room hotel
