Dr Jaime Gonzalo, VP of Huawei Mobile Services Europe, presents at Fitur 2025

FITUR 2025 brought together global tourism professionals to showcase industry trends, emphasizing sustainability, innovation, and economic impact. Huawei, utilizing Petal Ads, connected Spanish tourism leaders with Chinese counterparts, hosting a high-level networking event to boost economic and cultural collaboration.

Insights into China’s Dominance in Global Spending and Innovation
Dr Jaime Gonzalo, VP of Huawei Mobile Services Europe, underscored the Chinese market’s importance in global tourism, emphasizing its critical role for success in the competitive tourism landscape.

“As a leading outbound travel market, China is a major revenue driver for many tourism sectors, including retail and entertainment, substantially contributing to the economic growth of global tourism destinations. This spending increase highlights the need for businesses worldwide to cater to Chinese tourists’ needs, offering customized services and leveraging popular Chinese digital platforms,” he stated.

Gonzalo also highlighted China’s innovative leadership, citing its €1 billion 5G investment by 2025—four times that of Europe. He also mentioned advancements in IoT and the “super apps” ecosystem. He stressed the importance of a multi-device approach to engage Chinese tourists, citing Petal Ads’ success in running effective campaigns within this market.

Networking Event Highlights
Mr He Yong, Minister Counsellor for Cultural Affairs at the Chinese Embassy, delivered the opening address.

Mrs Carmen González Gens, VP of Huawei Technologies Spain, presented the company’s vision for sustainable tourism, focusing on five key areas: environmental sustainability, connectivity, digital transformation, inclusive tourism, and off-season travel.

She emphasized technology’s role in improving tourism experiences, particularly for Chinese travelers, by streamlining processes and improving information access. She also discussed Huawei’s focus on promoting off-season travel to cater to the increasing interest among Chinese tourists in less-conventional destinations.

Mr Julio López Astor, Deputy Director of Tourism Studies and Knowledge of TourSpain, shared key findings from the International Visitor Satisfaction Survey 2024. He revealed that Chinese tourists expressed high satisfaction, particularly with leisure activities, rating these higher than their overall trip experience.

They also reported above-average satisfaction with scenic beauty. However, they showed comparatively lower satisfaction with security, tranquility, and language accessibility in Spain, indicating areas for improvement for the Spanish tourism sector.
