(SeaPRwire) – 130 Front Desk Casino Workers in Las Vegas Join Local 986
LAS VEGAS, May 16, 2026 — A total of 130 front desk employees at Mandalay Bay have voted decisively to unionize with Teamsters Local 986.
The newly organized staff now join over 250 Teamsters already represented in valet, horticulture, warehouse, and call center roles. This achievement marks complete union coverage across the property.
“We’re strengthening our presence throughout the casino sector, and workers are mobilizing because they recognize that the Teamsters stand strong and deliver results,” stated Tommy Blitsch, Director of the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show, and Casino Division. “This milestone at Mandalay Bay reflects a rising wave of hospitality professionals demanding dignity, safety, and long-term security.”
The front desk team, essential to guest satisfaction by managing arrivals and departures, maintaining operations, and ensuring travelers enjoy a welcoming experience, joined the Teamsters to pursue improved wages, enhanced benefits, and greater workplace influence.
“Front desk staff serve as the public face of the hotel and the core of the guest experience,” said Tim Vera, President of Local 986. “These individuals merit robust representation and a contract that truly values their daily contributions. Local 986 is honored to welcome them into our union and committed to fighting alongside them for the future they rightfully deserve.”
“We chose the Teamsters to secure a fair agreement and gain stronger advocacy at work,” explained Sylvia Hinojosa, a Guest Front Services Representative and new member of Local 986. “Becoming a Teamster means gaining the support, protections, and benefits we are owed, and I’m proud to stand united with my colleagues in this effort.”
Across the country, the Teamsters represent close to 6,000 members working in casinos and affiliated casino hotels.
