Abanos Displays Large-Scale Carbon Sequestration Through Palm Strand Board (PSBĀ®) in Key UAE Fit-Out Projects

Abanos Showcases Large-Scale Carbon Sequestration via Palm Strand Board (PSB®) in Major UAE Fit-Out Projects

(SeaPRwire) –   Impactful Material Choices: Abanos Locks Away 4 Million kg of CO2e with Palm Strand Board PSB®

DUBAI, UAE, May 21, 2026 — Abanos, a premier interior fit-out and joinery specialist in the UAE, has shown how material selection in manufacturing and fit-out can yield tangible decarbonization results. By utilizing PSB® across three major UAE developments, the company has successfully sequestered over 1 million kilograms of biogenic carbon and upwards of 4 million kilograms of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e).

This milestone underscores Abanos’ conviction that the future of interior design materials lies in intelligent sourcing, verifiable carbon performance, and scalable innovation, with PSB® establishing a new industry standard.

Abanos integrated PSB® on a large scale for interior installations across three projects completed for Transemirates Contracting at District One-FZ. This approach secures long-term carbon storage within the built environment, avoiding upfront embodied emissions.

Currently, PSB® is being utilized in high-performance interior features such as fire-rated doors, frames, flooring, partitions, vanities, and balustrades, proving that carbon-positive materials are commercially viable at scale. This follows an announcement in May 2025 by DesertBoard regarding the completion of a full-scale prototype home in Dubai Creek Harbour constructed entirely from its proprietary PSB® (Palm Strand Board) panels.

Adapting to Industry and Regulatory Shifts

According to Ravish Kishore, General Manager of Abanos, adopting PSB® represents a pragmatic evolution in the operations of fit-out firms.

“The sector has reached a juncture where environmental performance cannot come at the expense of quality,” Kishore noted. “PSB® enables us to showcase what can be achieved when sustainability is inherent to the material. Across just three developments, we have locked more than four million kilograms of CO₂e into the physical structures. This is a direct carbon storage solution, not an offset. In other words, it addresses Scope 3 emissions directly, supporting the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 targets.

He further emphasized that long-term strategic planning is now essential for manufacturers in the UAE.

“As the nation progresses toward Net Zero 2050, companies like ours must help guide how materials are sourced, manufactured, and supplied.” Utilizing carbon-sequestering materials has transitioned from a future goal to an immediate operational requirement.

The projects consist of:

  • The Edge and The Peninsula – Select Group
  • Kempinski La Reserve – Swiss Properties

In total, these initiatives achieved:

  • 1,105,506 kg of biogenic carbon stored within the PSB® panels
  • 4,030,071 kg of CO₂e captured, lowering the embodied carbon of the interior fit-out works
