vopemed is creating Claris, an AI-powered software solution that enhances the clarity of video feeds from laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgeries in real-time, with the aim of increasing surgical safety.

According to Amy Lorincz, CEO and co-founder of vopemed, “This funding confirms the need for better surgical visualization and strengthens our commitment to incorporating AI-driven image enhancement into every operating room. Current options don’t adequately address the ongoing visibility problems in minimally invasive surgery, which Claris is specifically designed to solve.”

Jacques Courtois of Genson Capital Inc. stated, “We are pleased to back vopemed as they introduce AI-based image enhancement to surgery. Their technology has the potential to greatly improve surgical accuracy and efficiency, and we anticipate they will have a significant impact on the MedTech field.”

Dr. Dicken Ko, Urologic Surgeon and Professor of Surgery at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, commented, “Clear visualization is essential for making accurate surgical decisions, particularly in minimally invasive procedures. AI-driven image enhancement like Claris could revolutionize the field by improving efficiency and patient results.”

The pre-seed round was spearheaded by Genson Capital Inc., with an investment of $1.5 million CAD, and Investissement Québec, acting as an agent of the gouvernement du Québec, contributing $750,000 CAD. These investors offer valuable support to companies in the life science and medical device sectors, helping them to foster innovation and expand within a regulated environment.

With this new funding, vopemed plans to expand its R&D efforts, improve its software for a wider range of clinical uses, and build stronger relationships with hospitals and surgical teams. The company is also planning clinical validation studies to further demonstrate the positive effects of Claris in real-world surgical settings.
