ST. LOUIS, May 23, 2025 — Ameren Corporation has announced today that it will donate $1 million to aid in the recovery from the severe storms and tornado that impacted the St. Louis area and nearby regions on Friday, May 16.
“These devastating storms deeply affected our communities, impacting our customers, employees, neighbors, and friends,” said Martin J. Lyons Jr., chairman, president, and CEO of Ameren. “The extent of the damage is truly disheartening, but our teams are working diligently to restore what was lost. This $1 million donation is another demonstration of our commitment to stand with the communities we serve as they embark on the difficult recovery process.”
Ameren will allocate $750,000 to local organizations to support ongoing recovery initiatives. The recipient organizations include the United Way of Greater St. Louis, the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, and the City of St. Louis Tornado Response Fund. These funds will support crucial services such as assistance with relocation, tree removal, property cleanup, urgent repairs, temporary shelter, food, clothing, essential items, and transportation.
Ameren will also dedicate $250,000 to provide energy assistance for eligible customers in Missouri and Illinois who were directly affected by the storms. Since the severe weather began last Friday afternoon, Ameren’s personnel have been actively repairing damage and restoring vital infrastructure, including power lines, poles, and substations. As of Thursday evening, power has been restored to 285,000 customers in Missouri and Illinois, representing over 95% of those affected. Crews are continuing to work efficiently and safely to complete the remaining repairs.
The funds from Ameren’s Charitable Trust are derived from the company’s earnings and are not included as a business expense charged to customers.
