AWS is providing $3 million in cloud credits to the Kubernetes project, which will help it grow and stay strong.
LONDON, April 1, 2025 — KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe, (CNCF®), the organization focused on building long-lasting ecosystems for cloud-native software, announced today that (AWS) has reaffirmed its dedication to Kubernetes by offering an additional $3 million in cloud credits for 2026. This investment guarantees the ongoing availability of crucial cloud infrastructure for Kubernetes development, testing, and scaling. It also underscores AWS’s long-term commitment to the sustainability of open-source projects.
AWS’s support, starting with an initial $200,000 cloud credit, has been vital in stabilizing Kubernetes infrastructure. In 2022, AWS increased its support, pledging up to $3 million annually for three years, which greatly enhanced the project’s infrastructure capabilities. The 2026 commitment extends this multi-year investment, highlighting AWS’s increased support in recent years. This initial investment paved the way for extensive Kubernetes testing and continuous integration, promoting sustained infrastructure growth. Currently, AWS works closely with maintainers and contributors to ensure Kubernetes remains a dependable, high-performance platform for businesses and developers worldwide.
“AWS has proven to be a valuable partner in supporting the cloud native ecosystem,” stated Chris Aniszczyk, CTO of CNCF. “This renewed credit contribution allows our community to innovate, build, and test on a large scale, ensuring Kubernetes continues to address the changing needs of enterprises across different clouds, while maintaining cost-effective and resilient infrastructure.”
As a key infrastructure provider for Kubernetes, AWS backs release-blocking tests and scalability jobs that run on up to 5,000 nodes. This is crucial for maintaining Kubernetes’ reliability and efficiency.
“Since we announced this initiative in 2022, we’ve seen how AWS infrastructure can speed up innovation within the Kubernetes ecosystem,” said Barry Cooks, VP Kubernetes at Amazon Web Services. “We remain committed to driving open source innovation and supporting the vital infrastructure that enables it. By extending this program through 2026, we are strategically investing in the future of cloud native technology. This ensures the Kubernetes community has the strong resources necessary for technological advancement. We anticipate our continued collaboration with the cloud native community and believe that strong industry partnerships are essential for advancing open source technologies that benefit the entire developer community.”
By having major providers like AWS support Kubernetes’ infrastructure, Kubernetes operations have significantly improved, with enhancements in scalability, security, and automation. These improvements have resulted in more efficient CI/CD processes, better resource utilization, and greater reliability for users globally.
“Cloud credit donations from major providers are critical for Kubernetes’ sustainability,” said Jeffrey Sica, the engineer who spearheaded CNCF’s transition. “AWS’s ongoing support has facilitated increased testing, improved performance, and streamlined workflows, reducing bottlenecks and operational overhead.”
Since 2019, AWS has broadened its contributions to meet the growing demands of Kubernetes, supporting extensive testing, maintaining a solid CI/CD pipeline, and enhancing overall project efficiency. This continued partnership boosts scalability, reduces costs, and ensures Kubernetes remains a resilient open source technology. Organizations benefit from lower cross-cloud traffic costs and a sustainable multi-cloud infrastructure that supports long-term innovation.
Organizations and technology leaders can help sustain open source projects by providing infrastructure support, financial contributions, or actively participating in developer communities, which ensures ongoing innovation and resilience. For further details, please visit AWS’s company .
